Solar Panels On North Facing Roof

I would be grateful for any thoughts suggestions on the direction to face solar panels.

While it is technically possible to install solar panels on the north side of your roof they need to be mounted so that they oppose the roof s slant in order to generate electricity. This means that they won t sit flush with your roof and will still produce relatively little electricity. We are looking at installing a 5kw system lg neon 2 panels and fornius inverter on a double storey house and had initially thought of splitting the panels between our north east and west facing roofs so that we got production over most of the day 8 panels north 4 east and 4 west. With a 2 12 pitched roof 9 5 tilt the south facing array will produce 1 361 kwh kwp.

Therefore directions like southwest or southeast are fine. Panels mounted on a standard pitch roof facing east or west will produce approximately 15 less output than panels mounted on a south facing roof of a standard pitch. I m really impressed with the installation and look of the panels. However solar panels can be orientated on any roof that faces south of either east or west.

The reality is that you do not own the solar system or the srecs and the solar energy that the panels produce is not free. Don t let them install solar panels on a north facing roof. North facing panels on the other hand generally produce much less energy than south facing panels and usually present challenges for homeowners looking to go solar as panels installed on these roofs will not produce enough to make financial sense. Where on my roof if your roof faces east west rather than north south you have a few options. The workers we nice respectful and kept the area clean.
